(More customer reviews)Nissim Nicholas Taleb speaks to Charlie Rose about the 'black swan' phenomenom. It is the unexpected , the surprise which no one has thought of and is looking for, and which in fact determines the nature of reality. Taleb says that in his book Economics gets only three pages, but clearly the major interest in it is the application of the Black Swan idea to the economy. Taleb says of all the thousands of economists the only one who got it fully right was Nouriel Roubini, the by- this - time well- known Dr.Doom. Taleb suggests that he knew the 'bubbles' were there and he says that the Economy is going to get far worse than anyone thinks now. I may have misunderstood him but I have the sense that he suggested that there is going to be something like a total collapse of the world economic order. A very big black swan indeed.
In any case I sensed in this interview a certain unease in Charlie Rose. Doctor Doom was also troubling for the fundamentally positive and optimistic, good- hearted Charlie Rose. But what to do the world is in a bigger 'broch' than anyone imagined it would be.
Taleb is clearly a very intelligent person but he seems to me a bit over- confident and a bit too entranced by his own analyses. Let's hope he is wrong and a few white swans turn up for the world - economy in the next few years.
