(More customer reviews)I could not be more pleased with a movie than I am with "Portrait", a 1993 made-for-TV movie that made my evening last night. No violence, no sleazy scenes as an excuse for making the movie. I won't give away any this movie's "secret" other than to say that it conveys so well the mutually respectful relationships between Bacall, G. Peck, H. Fonda, and Kate Hepburn. Peck and Bacall had fun doing this movie, and that essential sense of humor magnified the movie rather than causing it to be a shallow imitation. The movie successfully showed the depth and value of the humor and gentle intelligence that has been so much a part of the relationships among these four actors over the years.
The performance is truly adorable and thought-provoking for those who are half of an aging couple. It is one of the best "manuals" for how to age gracefully together rather than just as two people sharing the same place in time.
