(More customer reviews)This is a wonderful, astonishing DVD that is sure to entertain you, whether you are a long time Bobby McFerrin fan, or only know his hit song "Don't Worry, Be Happy" (that upbeat, calypso-inspired tune known to many). Let me just start by saying that the man is much more than that song--he is anything but a one hit wonder.
This DVD is a recording of his live concert, taped in California, in 1986 (nearly 20 years ago). Bobby's amazing ability to do tonal singing (that's singing two notes at once--a rare talent that few singers possess), transform his voice and body into as many as five instruments, mimic everyone from James Brown to Joan Armatrading, and even involve the whole audience in his take on "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and a spontaneous jazz jam is truly extraordinary. Some of my favorite cuts, featured in the concert, include "Cara Mia" (a beautiful calypso song, composed by Bobby McFerrin himself, with his instruments being his remarkable voice and a stool--for additional percussion), "Thinking About Your Body" (composed by McFerrin--very upbeat and melodious), and other tunes--above all, it is all largely spontaneous. He incorporates the "clicks" of a photographer's camera, in the audience, into a little ditty he comes up with on the spot. Bobby even sings an opera duet with himself!
You will absolutely love this concert. The only downside to it is that it is over WAY to fast. You will definitely enjoy the bonus songs, too. They are "Don't Worry, Be Happy" (a joyful and wonderfully absurd video featuring the clown prince, Bill Irwin and Robin Williams), and "Good Lovin'".
This DVD will definitely inspire you to get in touch with your inner music--be that singing, drumming on table tops or simply listening to the music of life.
